What To Eat When You Are Hungry

Hi, fellow healthy eaters!

I know you are going to think, "You are going to tell us to eat just fruits and vegetables when we get hungry". While this is true, I do not believe that you should just eat fruits and vegetables when you are hungry. There are many varieties of snacks that are healthy that you can eat when you get hungry, but not everyone will be able to eat them due to allergies and dislike in taste. Just remember, with anything you eat, eat in moderation (i.e. portion control). Below are some examples of healthy snacks to eat when your stomach says that you are hungry:

  1. Nuts (i.e. almonds, cashews, pistachios, pecans, walnuts, etc.)

  2. Yogurt (preferably plain Greek but if not then lightly sweetened vanilla)

  3. Fruits (Yes, fruits. i.e. strawberries, grapes, pineapple, banana, etc.)

  4. Vegetables (And vegetables. i.e. tomatoes, carrots, celery, broccoli, etc.)

  5. Vegetables with nut butter (i.e. celery with peanut butter, broccoli with almond butter, etc.)

  6. Fruit with yogurt (i.e. strawberries with Greek vanilla yogurt)

  7. Whole wheat crackers (specifically the woven wheat ones like Triscuit)

  8. Cheese (specifically deli block cheese, mainly because it is healthier, but any block cheese works)

  9. Applesauce (specifically unsweetened because it is healthier but any flavor works)

  10. Small round whole wheat pita pockets

  11. Granola bar (i.e. Nature Valley, Clif, etc.)

  12. Dark chocolate (specifically unsweetened because it is healthier)

  13. Skinny Pop popcorn

The examples of snacks above are healthy snacks to choose from when you are hungry. Although many people may be allergic to nuts, peanut butter, or any nut butter, or maybe allergic to dairy or gluten products, there are several other options for those with food allergies. The key to eating healthy and staying healthy is how much you eat, or portion control as we call it. Even if you want to indulge in a bag of chips or some candy for a snack, just remember to control your portion and limit your intake of sweets and processed foods such as these. It may be hard to begin eating healthy snacks if you have not already, or it may still be hard even if you are eating healthy snacks, but just remember the result. Eating healthy snacks is not the easiest, but it helps you live life to the fullest. Enjoy the ride and make sure to eat healthily! :)

xoxo
